When communicating with other webmasters, the subject of writing articles gets brought up and there will often be a response like “I’d rather have a root canal, I just can’t write”, or “my spelling is horrible and my grammar is not much better”.
We’re not talking about something that would qualify for the Pulitzer Prize in literature, just articles dealing with a topic that may be of interest to a group of people that also may happen to have an interest in your particular business proposition or activity.
If you’re looking to thrive in the world of internet marketing, it is essential that you understand just how important articles can be, as they can drive highly targeted traffic to your site and are considered to be almost on a par with actually making sales. In truth, it is always a good idea to seek article writing advice from SEO Yorkshire specialists as they know exactly what needs to be done to make the most of your website.
For those that insist on writing articles themselves, it is important to clearly define what you intend to write about so you can get your point across succinctly. Look at the topic in hand and the basic message that you hope to communicate with the readers. Everyone has their own way of writing and many people decide to leave the title to the end after they have written the article as a good title often presents itself later on.
Preparation is also key and organising the sequence in which you intend to write your article is essential. Not everyone gets their first draft written well enough to become the final copy. You just need to let the words flow, which can be achieved by relaxing. It may in fact be the case that you need to do a couple of rough drafts before you get everything sorted, and you may find you need to piece together different bits.
When it comes to organisation though, it is important that you check over your article and smooth out the rough edges. It is always advisable to do a spell check too to make sure you haven’t missed something.
Now that the body of text that you have created is “technically clean” from a spelling/grammar standpoint and you have satisfied yourself with the organization, its time to do the final styling or polishing to ensure readability. Read your article aloud to yourself and get a feel for the cadence or rhythm. It may be that your finished article could do with some touching up; try replacing or changing the order of a few words and see if it helps. The objective is to get people to read the article, so you want it to read well.
In today’s internet-savvy generation, many entrepreneurs use article writing as a way of carving out a successful career, plus a healthy income from it is another appealing feature. Of course, most people are better at article writing than they think they are, so don’t put yourself down too much and just be sure to have the right attitude, although in truth most people find it easier to just speak with SEO Yorkshire experts.

Creating back links to your website is one of the best ways to gain a higher ranking in the search engines. Almost any Search Engine Optimization (SEO) expert will agree with this point. The SEO experts will also tell you that your placement in the Search Engine Result Pages (SERPs) can make or break your website.
It is commonly thought by many that if your website does not rank on one of the first two pages of the SERPs that your website will rarely be seen by visitors. For most people searching the web, this means that you must be in the top 20 search results. Think about it, when you do a search and you cannot find what you are looking for after a couple of pages, what do you do? I know what I do, I type in a different keyword or a variation of what I was looking for in hopes of getting better results.
Google and Yahoo love to see a website that has back links leading to it. You can chëck this for yourself, take a look at a popular keyword phrase that everyone is trying to get ranked for. Most likely you will see that the top few sites have a large number of back links leading to that site. Conduct your own case study and look at your Number 1 competitor; does that site have more back links than you do? You can determine the number of back links that a site has by entering the following into the search engine of your choosing: link:http://www.yourdomainurl.com
Of course back links are just one part of the equation, but they are a big part of the equation in getting good SERP results. So, if creating back links is such a good idea, why isn’t everyone doing it? Well, not everyone is doing it, because it can be a real pain to create back links.
Let’s look at some of the more common methods of building back links:
Email A Fellow Webmaster
It is recommended that the back links that you get to your site be from a site that is relevant to the topic of your own website. Having a website about cars linked to a site about fishing does not help you in the SERPs, as much as having a site about cars linking to a site about tires.
The problem here is that you can literally spend hours upon hours emailing various webmasters and asking them to give you a back link. In addition, it is common practice that you offër a reciprocal link to their website. This is fine for some people, but others do not want to clutter their pages with links that take visitors away from their website.
Additionally, you will want to look and see if the site that you are trying to get a link from has a good Google page rank (PR). Google says that a back link from a related site with good PR counts as a strong “vote” for your site; the more votes that you get, the higher your SERP and the higher your PR will be at the next update.
After you pitch a link exchange to a webmaster, there is usually some waiting involved. You can email 100 webmasters and get a varied response, that is, if you get a response at all. It has been cited that reciprocal linking campaigns have about a 2-5% acceptance rate. In other words, out of those 100 people you took the time to research and to email, only 2-5 of them will give you the back link that you are looking for. Of course, a few more may be willing to do it for a fee.
Directories
Directories are another “tried and true” method of generating back links to websites. Again this is a process that will take hours of work. The two most popular directories are DMOZ.com and the Yahoo directory.
DMOZ is human edited; this is good, because they work hard at only approving quality sites. The downside is that they often lack the actual human beings to approve or disapprove all of the sites that are submitted. There simply are not enough people volunteering for DMOZ to stay on top of all the submissions.
Yahoo will allow for directory submissions for frëe if your website is not deemed to be a business website. If your website is deemed to be a business website, plan on shelling out about $300 to be “considered” for a listing in their directory. They do not guarantëe that your website will be listed in their directory. Yahoo only guarantees that they will consider your website for inclusion in their directory.
You will find that many webmasters operate their own directories. You can find a líst of many directories on message boards like the one at DigitalPoint.com. Many of these directories provide free listings, or they wish for a reciprocal link in exchange for placing your link. At many of these directories, you can also pay for a sponsored link.
The problem here? Usually there are no human editors at the directories I refer to; most of the time they are operated by software. This means that your site could end up in the wrong category or that your site is simply listed and forgotten about. These link directories often boast of having decent PR on their homepage, but the actual page that your site will be listed on usually has a 0 PR. These small directories also have numerous requirements, and you need to read the fine print. One mistake and the 15 minutes you spent constructing your submission could be wasted, when your submission is rejected because of it.
Reprint Articles For Back Links
This is an option to create back links that many webmasters overlook. Probably the primary reason that webmasters do not take full advantage of this is because they do not feel comfortable with writing articles. Another reason is that the Webmaster may not have the time to write a quality article.
Consider this, one well-written article can be submitted to literally thousands of publishers of ezines and newsletters, niche webmasters, and frëe reprint article sites and can result in dozens, hundreds or thousands of back links. Now, not every publisher will pick up your article, but for the ones that do use your article, you will get a back link from their website. The back link is achieved in the “about the author” box that is required to stay in place with your article.
The more informative people find your article, the more linking results you can expect to achieve from your reprint article.
When you think you don’t have the time to spend an hour or so writing an article you need to take a look at how many hours have been spent submitting to directories or writing to other webmasters asking for back links.
Don’t feel comfortable writing your own article? Then hire a ghostwriter.
Once the article is written, then you should consider paying a distribution service to distribute your article for you. Again, this is a relatively small price to pay in order to get those all-important back links.
Some recommended article distribution services in alphabetical order include:
ArticleSubmissionSites.com
EzineTrendz.com
PRLeads.com
SubmitYourArticle.com
thePhantomWriters.com
In the end, you can save yourself time, money, and a lot of headaches by using articles to create back links to your site. You may be surprised by how many websites are starving for content and are more than happy to place your free reprint article on their website. Odds are that if they are placing your article on their website, then they are in your same niche market — which only adds to the value that the search engines will place on that back link. Don’t forget that people actually read these articles, and you can gain a boost in traffíc as a bonus to all of your new back links.
In Conclusion…
You may be asking, why should I shell out the money to use reprint articles as a linking method? In answer to that let me ask you this; how much money have you spent on being listed as a “sponsored” website in directories?
How much time have you wasted in trying to drum up new back links through other methods? After all, your time is your money. You can spend your time or your money to do the tasks that you need to do to be successful. And literally, sometimes it makes a whole lot of sense to outsource specialized tasks to experts in their fields.
No website is an island. You cannot just build your website and expect people to be knocking down your door to buy your products or services. You have to advertise. People have got to have a way to find your website.
If you take the time and expend the effort to build your website in such a way as to attract the search engines and to provide what the search engines consider to be a good website, then you will find that the search engine companies can be your business’ best friend. And whether you like it or not, one of the ways that the search engine companies deem a website to be a good website, is by the number of back links pointing to the website.
You can have the best website on the internet, selling the best products and services at the best prices, but if people cannot find you, then your website is pointless. If you desire to be successful, then you need to do whatever is necessary to build links to your website. Give the search engines what they want (back links to your website), and the search engines will give you what you want (targeted traffíc).

As search engine optimization consultant, I conduct competitor research of behalf of our clientele during my time at StepForth. This product or service is concentrated on breaking down the competitor's marketing campaigns thus identifying the strategies that is indispensable to SEO success. as you might think I bumped in to a lot of fascinating strategies the do create results and some don't. In this article I will account for a couple of techniques that appear to be overlooked by many but have proven time and time again to work; the creation of an on-site glossary and frequently asked questíons (FAQ) section.
Create a Glossary
I imagine we have both shared one frustration with the Internet Marketing at one tíme or another and that is jargon… and too much of it. Acronyms, and bafflegab seem to be unintentionally utilized on websites all over the web (I am guilty too, I admit it) and I often wish there was a simple way to find a definition within a website rather than visiting an online dictionary. In most scenarios, there are a few websites where the owners have inteligently linked a relatively ambigous term to an off-site definition which is friendly to user but totally junk for great optimization opportunity. If there will be a chance to link to a definition, it would be more beneficial to link to the content of you website in order to gain credibility to the eyes of Google and other major Seach Engines.
You see, Google's algorithm is essentially a credibility calculator; it considers a whole host of elements on your website and pointing to your website to determine where it should be ranked. There are seemingly insurmaountable elements that the algorithm considers, not to mention the uniqueness and importance of each page's and it's content to the number of linkslinking or pointing to your website coming from different credible websites. Put a relevant content to your glossary page and link a word or a phrase from a page to a particular definition in your glossary in this way your site's credibility can be gained.
For example, your website is.e. www.xyzname.Creating online plans to benefit your comprehensive glossary of terms for woodworking will definitly create a huge sale on your website. Once the glossary is complete you can then occasionally link to the associated terms from within the written content on your website~When the glossary is complete, occasionally you can then link to the associated terms in the written content on your website}~{Once the glossary is complete you can then occasionallylink to the associated terms from within the written content on your website}~When the glossary is complete, occasionally you can then link to the associated terms in the written content on your website}.
Okay, I may see the core content of the site within the glossary has relevance to each item, however, its not confirmed how these links help?
A search engine algorithm tries to ascertain credibility in much the same manner humans do; we just take our innate calculations for granted. This is an issue of customer service. If your customer is reading a tutorial on building a rocking chair on your woodworking site wouldn’t he feel good if whenever a confusing term appeared he was provided with a link to a glossary on the site conveniently defining the term. This small convenience would probably inflate your opinion of the usefulness of the website and in-turn the credibility of the website would be less in doubt. Search engine algorithms assimilate these helpful links in much the same manner so by helping your visitors you are also helping your website.
Wait! There is another bonus to having a glossary:
As an added benefit glossary pages also have a great chance at obtaining rankings for their associated definitions precisely because they have links from relevant text pointing to them. In conclusion, a woodworking glossary is a big factor that allows internet surfers or even other websites to link to your site for a definition.
In other words, glossaries are indeed a win-win strategy for any kind of site. Actually, as I create this information I can't seem to think of a particular site that wouldn't benefit from a glossary.
Create a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) Page
Now that you have read why an on-site glossary is important perhaps the concept of adding a Frequently Asked Questíons section to your website is a no-brainer or perhaps not. It is my professional opinion that you need a FAQ page and it is my firm belief that you should get your butt in gear and create one ASAP.
Similar to a glossary, the FAQ page is the best place to establish the credibility of your website ang set aside all the worries that often arise concerning your products and services. If you need some ideas of what questíons a prospective customer might ask, try calling a few clients and ask them what they looked for before ultimately choosing your company. Place a submission form on your contact page and see if prospects are willing to ask you a question directly – always try to respond promptly. Then put the Q and A on the applicable Frequesntly Asked Questions Page.
Yet another bonus from having an FAQ:
It is very common for the average surfer to search the web using questíons. If your FAQ uses the wording that you think your prospects will use when searching, you will have a good chance at acquiring some extra high quality traffic. Look for the most appropriate wording for each FAQ research something about keyword analysis tool.
Tips for Building an Optimized Glossary or FAQ
Now I imagine that every expert in the SEO field has a different preference for designing the ‘ultimate’ glossary or FAQ but there are definitely some important tips to keep in mind for both:
1. Keep the pages relatively short. For example, I do not recommend having the entire glossary or FAQ on a single page unless they are relatively small. Up to 10 to 15 questions and answers is ideal on each page.
2. When building a FAQ try to devote each FAQ page to a singular topic. For example, on a woodworking site the FAQ for one page might be on the installation of a wood floor and another page would be devoted to questíons on laminate floor installation.
3. In formatting Glossary and or FAQ content it is important to create a link to any related content within your site. In this occasion, if there is a visitor or seach engines go to your site through any of these pages, they will get an absolutely exact information in just one click.
4. Do not for get to place a "back" button or something for them to click on that will navigate them back to the glossary or FAQ main menu. This will create a more userfriendly navigation for your visitors to explore each resource and find a way back home or to the reading material they where before.
5. Add content to both resources whenever possible. It is often very simple to add a new definition or question and over time each resource will become more and more valuable to your users and ultimately contribute more to your website’s success.
6. Ensure that the FAQ and Glossary pages are included in your XML sitemap so that search engines can regularly index them for fresh content [see Google XML Sitemaps – The Basics ]. That being said, I suggest to set appropriate re-index rate every month unless the source will have an update than the usual. After all, these pages are supposed to help but not take away from the core content of your website.
Your Competitors Are Doing It or They Will
If your website lacks a glossary or a FAQ I can only hope that this article convinced you to make it a priority. These tools are important factors to the success of competitors that I have noticed in many of my analysis contracts. They are too simple to add for anyone to be without them. Even if you have to hire your search engine friendly web designer to add these resources the ends will justify the means.

Google is by far the most important search engine on the net. To rise to the top of their search engine, you need to improve your link popularity and you need to understand how they measure your link popularity (over 50% of all search engine traffíc comes from Google, and if you can rise to the top, you will likely rise to the top of all the other search engines as well). Link popularity is defined as the number of sites that are linking to your site. It goes without saying that some websites have 1000’s or even MM’s of sites linking to them. There many websites having only a few. The search engines use the number of inbound links your site has as a measure of how important your site is, which translates into your search engine ranking.
The actual number of links to your site is not the only variable used to calculate your link popularity. The search engines optimization also examine the relevance of the links to the subject matter of your site. For example, if a website that sells vitamins has 4,000 inbound links, but the source of most of the links are websites that have nothing to do with vitamins, then the algorithm that search engines use to determine link popularity will take that into account, and the link popularity score will not be very good.
It is possible for a website with a relatively small number of quality inbound links to be ranked higher than a site with a bunch of irrelevant or insignificant links. If I have a website that offers quotes for auto insurance, and I have 800 quality inbound links, then I might receive a much higher search engine ranking than another mortgage site that has 3,000 links that stem from link farms or Frëe For All (FFA) pages.
If you try to acquire inbound links by using link farms or FFA pages, not only will it hurt your search engine ranking, but you might get permanently removed from the search engine listings. Link farms are sites where you can instantly exchange links with all the sites listed in that directory. The most pointless link directories are FFA pages. The search engines usually discount any links that come from either of these sources. Now that we understand what link popularity is and how it works, we need to look specifically at how Google measures it. They use a number of variables in their algorithm to calculate your overall link score. The higher your score, the higher you will be ranked in the search listings.
One factor that Google uses in their algorithm, obviously, is the total number of sites linking to you. The more links you have, the higher your score will be. However, their algorithm is a little more complicated than that, and it is possible for a website with fewer links to be ranked higher than a website that has more links.
The reason for this is because Google also measures the quality of your links. If your website is about vitamins, and the site linking to you is a video game site, then that is not considered a quality link. A link helps your score the most if it is from a website with the same subject matter as yours.
Also, Google gives a higher score to a link if it comes from a page that has actual content that relates to your keywords. For example, if your site is about jewelry, and another jewelry website has posted a link to your site on their links page, that link is not as valuable as a link to your site coming from a blog or a message board where a lot of information about jewelry is being written or discussed.
Also, they give an even higher score to a link if it contains anchor text that matches one of the keywords that describes your site. By way of example, when my site sells lawnmowers, and a blog about lawnmowers posts a link to my site, it helps my score the most if the text my link is connected too is LAWNMOWERS. To learn more about anchor text, go to a search engine and look up ANCHOR TEXT and you will be able to learn about it.
Google uses another factor to score your link popularity and that factor is the diversity of keywords contained on sites linking to you. For example, if you have a site that sells handbags, and all the links to your site are from other sites that contain nothing but the keyword HANDBAGS, Google considers that to be abnormal. To get a higher score, you need to have links coming from sites that contain a variety of keywords related to handbags, such as BUY HANDBAGS, LEATHER HANDBAGS, etc.
It is difficult to íncrease your link popularity, but now that you understand how your score is calculated, you can devise a plan to improve your score. You might want to consider posting to forums and blogs that contain information that is related to your site, and when you post, include a link to your site.

As the internet has become increasingly sophisticated, the various professional fields in the internet marketplace have become more and more specialized. In each area there have been massive leaps in complexity, usability, design and technology.
Even just a few years back, there were relatively few separate specialties for people who work within the arena of the internet. These days there is a vast multitude of ways in which people can specialize online. These professionals include:
Web designers,Information architects,Google Adwords campaign managers, various types of program and software developers and last but not least, SEO services.
In my experience, most web designers these days don’t even know how to include Search engine Optimization in the sites that they design and build. There is ample proof of this; it is visible easily every day by just taking a look at what is out there. Sites that have empty, or in some cases, no Meta tags no headline tags and even in some cases, no title tags at all either! The most frustrating part of this is that all of these measures are very easy to include.
So where does that leave the buyer? It leaves them with a website that will no doubt look fantastic; however the chances are that few will ever see it. Let alone become customers of whatever service or product the site is offering. This seems to be particularly true in the case of websites that contain a lot of flash, it looks great, but it is heavy in the browser and as it is purely images, the search engines cannot read it, even if there are words as the words themselves are rendered as images not text.
Therefore, when shopping for a website designer, be aware that though most will have the words ‘SEO’ or ‘Search Engine Optimisation‘ somewhere within their marketing or sales material. Many don’t have any idea what it means, so take the precaution of checking. The way to check it out is to look at sites they have already completed – particularly their own. Check to see if it has Meta tags such as the keyword and description meta tag, check to see if their title tags actually have something useful in them not just ‘welcome to company XYZ website’.
These things are very easy to check. The title tag contents are readily visible when you open any webpage in your browser, you will see it on the very top of your screen. To double check the other items you will need to view the source code, you can do this in Firefox by clicking on ‘View’ then on ‘Page Source’. This will show you all the code of the site, the meta tags should be near the top just after the the title tags.
Lastly, check to see if the site has headline tags. Between these tags you should see the main headline of the page, this should include the keywords that you want people to find your website with.

For the beginning Webmaster, Search Engine Optimization is something akin to black magic. As a Guaranteed SEO in Houston, I believe part of this misunderstanding is due to all the misinformation spouted out by many so called SEO’s. Some do this because they don’t know any better while others do it to keep their Clients in the dark about what they really do. SE Optimization is not brain surgery people. It’s as simple as following a few instructions each time you build a website.
You want to get off to a good start. To begin with, the Webmaster should make certain your main keywords are part of the web address if it’s possible. All things being equal, a web page with keywords in the URL will outrank one without the keywords contained in the URL.
Now that you have that done, the keyword or keyword phrase should be used in the Title of your Website. What this does is help the search engines determine what the subject of your Website is.
You should also use keywords in the Title of each page or article on your site, or at the very least, you should use some keywords in the title of the page or article. This also helps the search engines determine what the subject of the page is, what it’s about and how relevant it is to the search term being searched for. Plus, the website should be coded in such a manner as to include the Title of each page in a H1 tag. There should only be one H1 tag per page for the best results. Search engines rely a great deal on the H1 to tell them what the page is about and how relevant it is. If your web designer does not know how this is done, fire them and find one that understands SEO.
Now that you have your domain, Website Title (Name) and Page Titles optimized with your keywords, it’s critical that your keywords show up a few times in the content of the page. For best results, you should use them at least once in the first paragraph and once or twice more in the article somewhere, especially near the end of the page. A few more times between the first and last paragraph can’t hurt but don’t over do it, in summary, just make sure you use them at the first of the article and again at the end.
Last up, the most important aspect of Website SEO actually takes place off the page. In fact, it takes place off the site altogether. In my opinion, the most important thing in getting higher ranks for a Website is backlinks pointing to your page on your Website. And it’s not enough to just get backlinks, these backlinks need to have your keywords as the Anchor text of the backlinks.
How important are backlinks? Well, I can rank a website that doesn’t have the keywords in the domain, one that doesn’t have keywords in the Website Title, Page Title and in the Content (although it’s much, much harder to do), but without anchored backlinks going to your web page, {it is nearly impossible} to rank a site in Google for any terms that are the least bit competitive.
